Injection of nitrogen (or compressed air) upstream of the coupling combined with a labyrinth device confers many related advantages to this system:

• A special sleeve & piping arrangement behind the impeller allows capturing a gas pocket in front of the seal area. When starting the pump, the governor weights generate an axial displacement of the shaft and releases the packing rings in the stuffing box from any friction in operating mode. An opposite phenomenon while in stand-by mode ensures normal shaft sealing conditions. (Horizontal Pumps MOR-UMOR)
